In the quest to make our clinical protocols entirely digital, the first step was to create digital impressions. We have two intraoral scanners at Kamala Dental to create the digital replica of intraoral structures, the first one is from Dentsply Sirona (Germany) and the second one is Shining 3D. The biggest advantage of digital impressions is that they give highly accurate and detailed images, reducing the likelihood of errors that can occur with traditional impressions. There is no need to take messy conventional impressions, making it convenient for both the operator and the patient. This is a boon for patients with strong gag reflex.
The scanned impressions can be sent digitally to CAD/CAM equipped dental lab for additive manufacturing procedures like 3D printing and CAD/CAM milling for creating crowns, inlays, onlays and all other prosthetic fabrications.
Such intraoral scans are used in conjunction with CBCT images to fabricate surgical stents via 3D printer for accurate implant positioning and placement.Intraoral scanning and digital protocols greatly reduce the clinical working time and makes prosthetic solutions faster. It also enables full mouth digital impressions to be made where it can be used for clear aligner fabrication, thus customizing it for our clientele.
