Root Canal Treatment is performed to treat an infection in the canals of the tooth root and to increase its longevity. However, at times the infection spreads beyond its root apex and can cause destruction of the bone surrounding it. The infection remains in the bone and it can flare up at times causing more destruction and shortening of roots. Eventually, a total tooth loss can occur.
Your dentist may at times suggest a minor surgical procedure, removing a part of the root tip and the bone around it, to avoid further recurrence of infection in that region. This procedure can be done along with your Root Canal Treatment or at times later.
This procedure increases the longevity of the root canal treated tooth. Follow the doctor’s instructions for safety and longevity.
